What is a Flood? 

A flood is an overflow of water when river banks get washed away and flood the land. Floods can happen during heavy rainfalls, when rivers overflow their banks, when ocean waves come onshore, when snow melts too fast or when dams break. Floods that happen very quickly are called flashfloods.
